1999 Fall Review
October 8-10
Coopers Rock State Forest
Morgantown, West Virginia
Featuring!!
Friday evening fund-raiser/reception 4-8
PM
The "Walnut Farm" on the outskirts of Morgantown will host an evening
social. Come early and tour the West Virginia Raptor Center and Elizabeth’s
Woods, a nature preserve of The West Virginia Land Trust. This is an
historical farm once owned by the Stout Family, and since the 50s, by the
Late Dr. Zimmermann and his wife Elizabeth. Elizabeth is an avid birder
and nature lover who donated 110 acres of the nearly 200 year old forest
to the land trust; she is a founding member of the Highlands Conservancy,
and founded the Raptor Rehabilitation Center in her barn, where it is still
located. Most recently the farm was the home of Dr. Steve Hollenhorst of
the WVU Division of Forestry, who recently accepted a position at the University
of Idaho. The farm and homestead has now been passed to Dave Saville and
Barnes Nugent who will carry on the tradition of stewardship as practiced
by their predecessors. We’ll have finger foods and snacks provided by Conservancy
members, beer by the West Virginia Brewing Company, wine, and entertainment
by the Morgantown Theatre Company.
