ODE TO BILL RANEY

Accordin' to William Raney
Us hillbillies ain't too brainey.
Grubbin' to our lawyers
For the coal company's hard earned dollars.
He don't know what we're thinkin'
'Cept we must all be drinkin'.
We ain't got no right AT ALL
To expect them in the wrong to take the fall.
It was God sent all that rain on us
So turn to Him if you want to fuss.
It was coal made our state what it is:
Flatter'n a soda pop without any fizz.
So we ought to quit whinin' and complainin'
After all it did stop rainin',
And if the good Lord wills and the creeks still rise,
We'll get FEMA's money and move to Ohi'.

CLOUDBURST, RAINBOW

One-hundred-year flood--
windows in the junipers,
where morning-doves nest.
