Message from Rick Webb on the progress of VTSSS 2000 (refer to the April 2000 issue of theVoice, page 15)

The VTSSS 2000 survey has gone well with about 98% of the 452 samples successfully collected. Over 250 volunteers helped with the effort. Our lab is presently very busy!

We’ve had a lot of media coverage, including about 20 Va. newspapers, the AP, and NPR. CNN.com picked up the story from the Environmental News Network. The address for that is: http://cnn.com/2000/NATURE/05/01/acid.fish.enn/index.html .

The media coverage has contained a bit of confused information, but overall its been fairly accurate and has done quite a bit, even before we have results, to re-interest the Virginia media and public in the acid deposition issue.

Cheers,
