May 18, 19, and 20 - Conference, "Managing to Create the Ancient Forest." Sweet Briar College, Sweet Briar, Virginia. Sponsored by The 500 Year Forest Foundation, Sweet Briar College, Lynchburg College, and Randolph-Macon Women's College. Purpose: To provide a forum for forest landowners, forest advisors, educators, conservationists, volunteers, and others interested in the long-term management of forests to learn about creating the ancient forests of the future. Speakers include: Dr. Lee Frelich (University of Minnesota), Dr. William Martin (Eastern Kentucky U.), Chris Bolgiano (author of The Appalachian Forest), Mike Townsend (England's Woodland Trust), as well as additional scientists, conservationists, and consulting foresters. May 27 thru June 3 - "Sprucing up the Trails." Workshops on trail maintenance. See page 8 for details.

June 2 thru 4 - Trout Unlimited Flyfishing School. They may still have openings, with just three weeks remaining before the weekend school. There may still time to register for the school -- just visit the WVTU website at http://members.aol.com/WVTU/school.htm .

June 3 - Day hike on East Fork of Greenbrier River with Peter Shoenfeld. See page 8

June 10 - Otter Creek day hike in Tucker County and car camping overnight with Susan Bly. See page 8 for details.

June 24 - Day cave trip with Barnes Nugent. Wet and requires moderate exertion. See page 8 for details.

June 24 & 25 - EPA Training. "How to Review a Title V air pollution permit." See formal announcement on page 14.

July 8th, 2000 (Saturday) - WVHC Board of Directors meeting, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, location to be announced later.

July 15 - A "peak experience" excursion with Ruth Blackwell Rogers. See page 8 for details.

July 17 thru 19 - Cranberry Wilderness backpack trip with Jack Slocomb. See page 9 for details.

August 5 - Canoeing on the Buckhannon River. Safe and easy. Bring lifejackets and lunch. Meet at Sheets just off Corridor H at the Buckhannon exit at 11 AM. Should be back at 4 PM. Call Don Gasper for further details at 472-3704.

August 12 - "Earth Walk" outdoor education experience with Jack Slocomb. See page 9 for details.
