March 31 thru April 2 - 2nd Interstate Summit for the Mountains, Camp Virgil Tate, Sissonville. Focus will be on campaign-building and peacekeeping, and to assess effectiveness since First Summit in Aug. 99. Registration deadline is March 22. Registration is $10 per person. April 1 - Try and fool hike leader, Rich McGervey, on the Otter Creek Wilderness Trail. See page 11 for details.

April 7 - Tree Huggers Ball and benefit for OVEC. Calamity Café, Hal Greer Blvd and 3rd Ave. in Huntington. Come, hear good music, have a good time, buy raffle tickets, win donated items!

April 8 - Hike with Leslie McCarty along the Greenbrier River. See page 11.

April 10 thru 13 - The Interior Department’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation & Enforcement (OSM ) announced that registration is open for participants in a Coal Combustion By-Products (CCB) Interactive Forum to be held at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Federal Energy Technology Center in Morgantown, West Virginia. Registration for the forum should be sent to Kimberly Yavorsky, USDOE, NETL, P.O. Box 10940, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15236-0940, by March 10, in order to assure processing, [included in the calendar in case that there are still openings up to the time of the forum. Ed.].

April 14 thru ? - Plan to join thousands in protest in Washington, DC, against the IMF and the World Bank. The International Forum on Globalization will sponsor a teach-in at the Foundry Untied Methodist Church, 1500 16th St, NW from 10 AM to 10:30 PM. Call 888-629-9269 for information. April 15 & 16 - Annual Meeting & Workshops of the Forest Watch Coalition at High Rocks Academy near the Cranberry visitors Center. The weekend will include the usual business meeting, required in the Coalition’s by-laws. But the majority of the schedule will be devoted to initiating work on a Citizens’ Plan for the Monongahela National Forest. The existing Plan for the Mon will be revised in 2001, and we must take the opportunity to develop our own vision of the future for the Mon National Forest. Joining us will be Brian O’Donnell of the Wilderness Support Ctr in Durango CO, and Kristen Sykes of the American Lands Alliance in Washington, DC.

April 15 - Dave McMahan will try to get you muddied up in the Cranberry Wilderness area on this adventuresome mountain bike outing. See page 11.

April 16 - Second annual Earth Day Festival sponsored by The Shepherd Environmental Organization. The event will take place on a field on the campus of Shepherd College. Educational, informative and fun. There will be live entertainment all day from 10:00-6:00 consisting of Jazz, Bluegrass, Blues, and much more. Food (including vegetarian) and drink will be available. There will be a large tent incase of rain.

April 19 - Earth Day event at Marshall University in Huntington. Noon to 3 PM. entertainment, interactive events, and display tables on the plaza.

April 28 thru 30 - West Virginia Highlands Conservancy's "Spring Review." Held at the Cheat Mountain Club which is located on the banks of the Shavers Fork River in the heart of the Monongahela National Forest.

May 13 - Hike with Carter Zerbe in the Cranberry backcountry. See page 11.
