WASTE, FRAUD & ABUSE: A recent General Accounting Office (GAO) report that was delivered to the House Committee on Appropriations declared that missed revenue, inefficiency, and waste throughout the Forest Service has cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. The agency's financial statements are unreliable with numerous unaccounted expenditures. GAO states that future funding for the FS should be based, in part, on its progress towards developing schedules that would lead to complete financial accountability.
