Action Network from Environmental Defense. Sending free messages to decision-makers from our computers. Finding the ways that work. Funding from members like us. Defense Action Network. http://actionnetwork.org/.

* Who We Are:

Ever wonder who our fellow activists are? Harris Interactive surveyed 1,000 of us to find out. We gave Action Network high marks for effectiveness. We’re activists and avid readers who follow politics closely and belong to other community organizations. We’re highly educated; 40% of us have attended graduate school. Many of us camp and hike, own pets, and are amateur photographers. Our age closely mirrors that of the general population, except for a disproportionate number of students and retired people. Many of us work in the technology, education, healthcare, government, or research fields.

* How We’re Growing:

With everyone’s help, we’ll double the size of Action Network by the end of the year. Watch for banners promoting Action Network around the Web, plus promotional material at environmental events, supermarkets, bookstores, and even with Kozmo.com deliveries. But our most effective way of recruiting activists is through members like us. The need is vital. Invite your friends and family to join Environmental Defense Action Network.. http://actionnetwork.org/.

* An Action Network Victory: Hawaii

Action Network activists like us sent over 12,000 letters sent to Hawaiian and federal officials. These letters helped secure an Executive Order from President Clinton protecting 84 million acres of ocean resources in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve. http://actionnetwork.org/alert-story.tcl?alert_id=13908.

* Find Out What Action Network Activists Have to Say

About Offshore Oil Drilling: Since February, over 5,000 Action Network activists like us have sent messages to the Minerals Management Service (MMS) opposing efforts to open more U.S.coastline to offshore oil drilling. MMS has posted on their website your comments, along with those from thousands of other citizens, environmental groups, corporations and political leaders. * Did You Know?

Action Network comes to us from Environmental Defense, a leading national environmental organization that helped get DDT banned, persuaded McDonald’s to improve its packaging, and persuaded seven of the world’s largest corporations to join us in a partnership to reduce global warming. Environmental Defense is dedicated to protecting the environmental rights of all people, including the right to clean air, clean water, healthy food, and flourishing ecosystems.
