Dolly Sods North Workshop

August 14 -16, 1998 Sponsored by Forest Watch Coalition

Dolly Sods North is a tract of about 6000 acres acquired by the Monongahela National Forest in the early 1990s. It is adjacent to the Dolly Sods Wilderness, and virtually completes public ownership of the Red Creek headwaters. Dolly Sods North is important biologically and for recreation. But it has not yet received a Forest Service management designation. What does the future hold for the area? How should it be managed for present and future generations? The purpose of the workshop is to explore these and similar questions.

All activities meet at Laneville Cabin (entrance to Dolly Sods Wilderness). Overnight accommodations (very limited) and meals are available there also, and camping is nearby. Directions: Take WV 32 from Harman or Canaan Valley. Turn at the Dolly Sods sign and follow the road to the end of pavement. Cross the bridge over Red Creek; the cabin is on your left.
