Continuing schedule for Walk for the Mountains: Larry Gibson and others will be conducting a state-wide walking/speaking tour focusing on mountain top removal. The tour will educate people and encourage involvement, as well as provide varied formats for exchange of ideas and discussion of the mountain massacre issue and the underlying causes of much of WV’s social and environmental inequity.  Aug. 21 - Bicycle Ride for the Mountains. Join Larry when he gets to the Capitol. Meeting places are: 1) Curry’s Bike Shop (755-8794), 107 21st St., Nitro. Depart at 10:30 AM. 2) John’s Cyclery (727-2180), 309 McCorkle Ave., St Albans. Depart at 11AM. 3) Ridge Rider Bicycle Co. (342-7430), 405 Capitol St., Charleston. Depart at 12:15 PM. Bicyclists can also meet at other locations and should coordinate their departure times to arrive at the Capitol Complex at 12:15 PM.

 Aug. 27 thru 29 - Interstate Summit for the Mountains at the Appalachian South Folklife Center, Pipestem, WV.  Aug. 28 - "People Make The Difference," at the Ice House, Berkeley Springs. Events: 5-7pm. Environmental Fair & Fare, Educational Displays by Area Organizations and potluck supper. John Waits Memorial Lecture at 7: "Clean water and you! Protecting our precious resource"- Speakers: Margaret Janes and others. 8pm. Idea Exchange; Find out what you can do to save water and improve the environment. Each person who attends will receive a booklet "Residential land use management: a homeowners guide" courtesy of WVU Morgan County Extension Office. Door prizes. Admission: FREE -- just bring a dish.

 Sept. 10 thru 12 - Music for the Millenium, at Old Timers’ Reunion, Tom Robertson Assoc. Park, Dailey, WV. An invitation for non-profit environmental organizations and organizations for fund raising. Music, the arts and ideas shared to make for a more natural world. (See announcement on page 16).

 Sept. 11 - Third annual Ironweed Festival sponsored by the Appalachian Women's Alliance (Saturday) from 11AM to 11 PM at the Appalachian South Folklife Center in Pipestem, West Virginia. The Festival celebrates the artistic talent, regional leadership and courageous lives of Appalachian women through music, storytelling, poetry, dance, and visual arts.  Sept. 18 - Planning West Virginia’s State Forests, Part 2. Days Inn in Flatwoods, 9 AM to 4 PM. This workshop is designed to help citizens understand how they can have a voice in state forest plans. Global issues include the nations state system in relation to peace, civil disobedience, environmental, militarism, economics, women’s, media, governance, citizenship, Poverty, human spirituality, weapons for mass destruction, violence, population pressures.
